Bookmarks & Reading Schedule

We have created bible bookmarks with the reading schedule that you can place in your bible for your OT, Psalm, and NT readings. To request a set of bookmarks to be sent to you, please fill out this form. We also have a “Fridge Version” of the reading schedule that can be hung up for your convenience.

To get reminders for your reading electronically, here are a few options:
Web This link takes you to the days reading (This is what we already access on our page)
RSS This link will create an RSS feed for your preferred RSS Reader
Email This link will allow you to subscribe to a daily email of the day’s reading
iCal This accesses an internet calendar for outlook
Mobile This link is a for reading the text on a mobile phone
Print Version (PDF)

you can also subscribe to the ESV audio podcast in such a way that it coincides with the reading schedules. Here’s how to subscribe to this in iTunes:

  1. Go to the ESV Reading Plans page.
  2. Right-click (Ctrl-click on a Mac) the “RSS” link of the feed you want.
  3. Choose “Copy Link Location” or “Copy Shortcut.”
  4. Start iTunes.
  5. Choose Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast
  6. Paste the URL from step three into the box.
  7. Click OK.

SMS (text messaging) is a bit more complicated. If you have a gmail account, enter http://www.google.com/calendar and where you can add a calendar, click ADD by URL and paste this: http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/share/ical/daily.reading.bible.ics. Next, click Notifications, and add your mobile phone number. If you do not have a gmail account, email sarters@dhefc.org with your mobile number, and we can set this up for you.

This is a classic Survey of the Whole BibleThis book spends more time talking about the theological components of the books, and less time on details of historical context

It makes a good introductory book to help educate the ordinary Church member who does not know much about the New Testament apart from choice verses. It also makes a helpful reference texts when we deal with controversial verses in the Bible.Benware brings the reader up to speed about the history of the area between the Old and New Testament time periods. He does an excellent job covering the rise of the Greek Period, through the Hasmonean Period, and up to the Roman Period.It breaks down the Bible, into sections and sub-sections. For example, it introduces the 1st 5 books of the Old Testament as the Books of the Law, explains why they are called that, the main points, the main people, an outline of what happens in each chapter- and then it goes a wonderful step further, and links in known historical information, a map of 'Where It All Happened', and other pertinent information about the world at that time. The same format is followed for each Book of the Bible. Within each book there are small illustrations & summaries of the main events in each chapter, which are surprisingly well done- not off-putting to an adult, very accessible to a child.

The ESV Daily Reading Bible has the whole bible in a standard format (to be used as a regular bible) with the addition of the daily reading schedule in the side margins. It also has three cloth markers for OT, Psalm, and NT readings. This is the only printed bible that follows our current reading plan.

Meeting the Lord in Dry Places:

None of us really want the Dry Spells of life. We become tired, and thirsty for something that satisfies, we are uncomfortable, we are unsure of the future. The dry places of our lives feel the most distant from the Lord. We think that the dryness is an expression of God’s removal of blessing, the absence of his presence, when in reality, it is the desert places that allow us raw and concentrated time with Him. Allow this series to challenge your thinking of that a time of blessing from the Lord looks like.

Victorious Life

Too often Christians talk about just scraping by, lacking joy in the Lord, being defeated by temptation. When we read Deuteronomy, Joshua, Acts and Romans, we get a very different picture…celebration of victory and the gift of God’s strength to conquer evil. Over the weeks following Easter, we will find out what it means to live in the victory won  by Jesus in his resurrection.
